About GreenAdvantage Building Practitioners Property Owners USGBC Newsletter
Overview

The U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC) - www.usgbc.org - and Green Advantage® share common goals: educate consumers and train practitioners in sustainable building practices. Through training and certification, the broad range of practitioners involved in the construction process will be able to enhance and demonstrate their knowledge of green building principles and practices.

According to the USGBC, "LEED® Professional Accreditation distinguishes individuals with detailed knowledge of LEEDŽ project certification requirements and processes and a command of integrated design principles. LEED® accreditation is awarded to building industry practitioners who successfully demonstrate these proficiencies on a comprehensive exam." The USGBC encourages its members to become LEED-Accredited. Green AdvantageŽ Certification is designed to be a non-competitive, complementary offering that supports LEED Accreditation.

Intended primarily for individuals working within the construction industry - such as contractors, subcontractors and tradespeople, Green Advantage® Certification is recommended as an additional offering for developers, architects, engineers and designers who wish to be both LEED Accredited and Green Advantage Certified. Green Advantage® is not affiliated with any LEED products or trainings. Professionals interested in LEED Accreditation or training should look for classes that are specifically sanctioned by the USGBC for that purpose.

Green Advantage's Role

From 2003-2005 Green Advantage® worked with USGBC as an educational partner in order to mutually benefit the respective certifications offered by each organization. Part of this effort involved working with USGBC Chapters and exploring ways to fashion the Green Advantage offerings so they were more complementary to LEED®.

Today, Green Advantage works with participating USGBC Chapters to enhance their educational mission and assist in generating Chapter revenues. Green Advantage, Inc. strong commitment to USGBC Chapters is evidenced by $25 of every Green Advantage Certification Fee being paid to the chapter in whose territory an individual sitting for the exam has listed as his/her address.

A LEED Innovation Credit has been granted if a significant percentage of a project's building force is Green Advantage Certified prior to the commencement of construction. Click here for more information.
