About GreenAdvantage Building Practitioners Property Owners USGBC Newsletter
The GA exam and curriculum outline are applicable primarily to contractors, subcontractors and trades people who work in the commercial and/or residential fields. Individuals will take GA-Commercial , GA -Residential or GA-Commercial/Residential versions of the exam. Other practitioners may take the exam, but contractors, subcontractors and trades people represent our core market.

Under the Agreement with USGBC (www.usgbc.org), GA Certification is designed to be a non-competitive, complementary offering that supports LEED Accreditation. Chapters are encouraged to steer architects, engineers and designers to take the LEED Accreditation training and exam. If these individuals are interested in GA Certification, it is recommended as an additional offering for those who wish to be both LEED Accredited and GA Certified.

GA is not affiliated with any LEED products or trainings. Professionals interested in LEED certification or training should look for classes that are specifically sanctioned by the USGBC as LEED.

U.S. Green Building Council Announces Alliance With Green Advantage Environmental Certification
Affiliation meets needs of expanded audience of building-related professionals

PITTSBURGH, PA, November 12, 2003 - Each year the demand for sustainably designed buildings and the "green" techniques and products to construct them increases. Along with this demand, so grows the call for building-related professionals to render the myriad of services involved in the construction process. Now, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Advantage are joining forces to provide these professionals a comprehensive resource for training and certification.

Through its LEED certifications, USGBC has become the foremost standard for designers, architects and engineers seeking to differentiate their practices with environmentally sound approaches. Green Advantage, initiated with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Nature Conservancy, has focused on providing basic green-building certification to building-related professionals. "While we have certified some designers, architects and engineers, our core target market is contractors, sub-contractors and the trades - the kinds of building-related professionals that designers, architects and engineers rely upon," explains Green Advantage CEO, Grady O'Rear. Green Advantage administers a certification exam that will be available nationally in early 2004. Participating USGBC chapters will coordinate and authorize localized training in preparation for the exam.

According to USGBC President and CEO Rick Fedrizzi, "USGBC is very excited about joining forces with Green Advantage. Through this alliance in training and certification the broad range of professionals involved in the construction process will be able to enhance and demonstrate their knowledge of green building principles and practices." Further details about the alliance, training, and certifications available through USGBC and Green Advantage can be obtained by visiting their websites at www.usgbc.org and www.greenadvantage.org.
