Tamar Datan is an independent consultant in community and economic development, conservation, education and related areas. Prior to launching her consulting practice, Tamar was vice president of The Nature Conservancy and director of its Compatible Ventures Group, where she advanced economic development strategies that achieved conservation goals in communities across the country. From 1990-97, Tamar was with The Pew Charitable Trusts, where she managed interdisciplinary programs and developed a portfolio of $100 million in grants for rural development, conservation, civic engagement and other fields. Tamar began her career as a researcher and administrator in higher education, and was briefly a third grade teacher in her hometown of Jerusalem, Israel. She holds a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and a master's degree from Harvard University.
