People Involved - Greg Franta

Since the early 1970's, Greg Franta has pioneered environmentally sustainable architecture resulting in successful "green" buildings throughout the world. He has led ENSAR Group in providing services on over 500 energy efficient and environmentally sound projects, including offices, laboratories, educational buildings, health facilities, libraries, homes (including the White House), and other buildings - many considered the most energy efficient in the U.S.

His work is widely recognized and he has received many design awards, including the Grand Prize as the Laureate of the International Biennial of Architecture in the Republic of Georgia, for the "Avenisi World Youth Campus," energy innovation awards from the U.S. Department of Energy, and design awards from the American Institute of Architects. He is the recipient of the 1998 AIA Colorado Architect of the Year Award. He has been instrumental in developing new environmental resources and design methodologies for architects. He has served in the National Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architects and is a co-founder (past Chairman) of the AIA Committee on the Environment. He is also a serving Board Member for the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (formerly Passive Solar Industries Council) and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.

He has authored and compiled numerous documents on energy and sustainable design, including: Glazing Design Handbook, AIA (1997), Solar Building Architecture MIT Press (1990), Energy Design for Architects, AIA (1988), Energy in Architecture: Techniques and Applications, AIA (1981), and the Solar Design Workbook, SERI (1981).
