LEED Innovation Credit Granted for Green Advantage Certified Contractors and Subcontractors

For those aspiring to attain LEED Certification, an Innovation Credit is now available if a significant percentage of contractors and subcontractors working on the project are Green Advantage Certified at the time of commencement of construction.

The Benefits
The Green Advantage Training Program offers real world, practical information with broader, big picture concepts to prepare students to accomplish four important goals:

  1. Understand and enforce the core concepts and construction principles behind sustainable buildings leading to holistic view from the different trades of their work. This will foster leadership in the industry as younger tradesmen move into management positions.
  2. Integrate green practices and strategies into construction processes which will lighten the impact on the environment, save energy and improve the health conditions of construction workers and building occupants
  3. Become knowledgeable enough about the LEED rating system as it applies to construction to be an active partner with design professionals to achieve a LEED rated building.
  4. Become thoroughly prepared for the Green Advantage Certified through an hour long test that will be taken at the end of the course.

The Sessions are organized as follows:

Session 1: Laying the Ground Work Introductions, The Big Picture of Sustainability, First Cost v. Life Cycle, Overview and Impact of the LEED rating System upon the Construction Industry; Construction Operations includes LEED workbook, Construction Waste Management and much more.

Session 2: Building a Green Project Site, Structure, Walls, Windows, Roofs, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, LEED Documentation

Session 3: Finishing the Project Interior Finishes, Equipment, Landscaping, Project/LEED Closeout, Course Review - prep for test

* In the event that you are unable to attend the scheduled testing session following your authorized training, arrangements can be made for you to take the open book Exam at a participating community college or other authorized testing site. There is an additional fee of approximately $25 for these services. Exams must be taken within 90 days of completing authorized training.

If you wish to take the Exam without training, or if you are beyond 90 days of completion of an authorized training workshop, the Certification Exam will be administered in a closed book format at an authorized testing site.  The cost is $125 and an additional fee will be charged by the testing site, usually ranging from $25 to $50.  Arrangements can be made by contacting Gina at ginac@greenadvantage.org.

If you are not planning to take the Exam during the session associated with your training, it is recommended that you allow 10 business days lead time to make arrangements to take the Exam. You should contact Gina at ginac@greenadvantage.org or call her at 240-422-3864 to make arrangements to take the Exam at an authorized testing site.
